For Students

Parramatta East Public School has a substantial library that caters well for students, staff and is beginning to cater for parents.

Would you like to have a look at our library catalogue? All students are able to see "My Library" via the portal and Kidspace.

Library Time

Every class attends the library each week. During that time students learn how to use the library effectively and develop skills in the location and use of information. Students are expected to borrow books during the lesson, using a library bag to protect the books.

Borrowing

All students are allocated a library barcode. This is retained at the Circulation desk and used when students borrow items.
Years K - 2 are able to borrow 2 items.
Year 3 is able to borrow 3 items.
Years 4 - 6 are able to borrow 4 items.
The loan period is 2 weeks - books are considered overdue when this period has expired.
New borrowings cannot happen until all overdue books are returned or paid for.

Resources

All resources are barcoded and and accessioned using the OASIS Library system. Where possible the subjects are cross-referenced and linked to information for resource listings.

Searches can be conducted using the online catalogue and is a simple process of entering keywords, titles authors, subjects and other more complex search methods.

A small number of resources are now available in our parent library.

Premier's Reading Challenge

Booklists
: listings of K-2 books   3-4 books     5-6 books
7-9 books are available here.

Series books: 2 books can be read as part of the official Challenge then extras form part of your 'other' choices. These are also available here.

Rules
for participation

Data Entry: students need to log on to enter the data each time they have read an appropriate book. Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about the books that have been read before they are entered onto the database.

Last year 2 students received a GOLD award for taking part in the Challenge for 4 years.
This year we are looking forward to many more students achieving this milestone.
A list that is updated weekly is being kept on the library door as an encouragement for students to enter their data regularly and complete the Challenge.
